Lighting was a key element in our trailer in order to create the atmosphere necessary to create tension and narrative enigma. In the filming process we used different types of lighting in order to create this effect, we experimented with different ways to light one of out characters face in order to present the most terror.
Bright lighting will be used in scenes such as Becki at home with her family. The bright lighting creates a happy and upbeat atmosphere, which would reflect the equilibrium of the narrative, before things go wrong. It also suggests the family's mood of happiness and content at this point in the trailer
This is then contrasted to when Beck is kidnapped. Me and Ella decided on dark lighting in the scenes of being a hostage, for example in the bunker and back of the car. This would reflect the darkening themes and sinister aspect of the film. Low key lighting used is also a common convention of our film genre. To achieve this, we chose the bunker as it offered minimal natural lighting, and decided to film the car scene in reverse order to the narrative, so it was getting dark when we started to film.
